Weather has been great here in Vermont. I almost forgot that fall was here. I have a bumper crop of fall raspberries thanks to the lack of frost. Not too many flowers left to pick in my garden at home, but the shop garden is pampered here everyday and it has paid off now. I've got the most amazing nastursiums; they are headed towards School Street. A few zinnias hang in there, a few rubeckias have lasted well through the season. But I heard the "snow" word mentioned.... won't be long, at least I just remembered to order a mid-week ski pass. As you might have read on my website, If it's sunny and the skiing is good, there might be a "Gone Skiing" sign on my door at the shop!!!
I had a few neighbors over for dinner last night. My favorite part of entertaining is when all the last kitchen details are done and I lite the candles and turn on a few of my decorative lampshades to bring the last of the summer warmth into the house. I enjoy having friends over for dinner, preparing great woodfired pizzas in my husband, Carson's brick oven. It's those final touches of candles and llluminated lampshades that add the finishing touches to my dinner party. Last fall I had dinner at one of Boston's most acclaimed restaurants. Our table was a nice round table, great spot, but no candle, no lights and most of all no warmth. First off my older eyes couldn't see the fantastic menu that deserved to be read throughly, let alone see my dinner partners. I often think back at that dinner, food was good but the atmosphere lacked the warmth needed to fill out the experience.
