It's a snowy Monday morning. Piles of work to do, but since I'm the boss I feel like doing something different today. We'll, I've made a shade like this only once before....a project for my Lampshade Lady Book. One of the fun parts of working on my book was searching out cool things to use for the lampshade projects. The grain bag above was one I bought, but hadn't had a chance to use. I've decided procrastinate a little longer on shop orders and have fun designing for a couple of hours this morning.
The book project used a larger flour bag than the one I'm working on now. I love the graphic designs on these bags. I'd never done this before, but what the heck. I was pretty sure it would work and it did and sold just as fast. The first thing I had to do when starting this project was to figure out the best size and shape lampshade frame to use. I tried a larger one, but that didn't leave me enough of the bag to fit the rest of the panels. This shape was large enough to see most of the image and enough paper for all panels. good, good. That made it easy. I usually design the shades as I work on each project.
This was a fun, pretty easy way to start the week. Snow, sleet and freezing rain called for braking routine. I used 5/8" grosgrain on the vertical ribs, grosgrain on top and bottom and 2 decorative trims. You can see how I've used some of the graphics from the bag on the front side panels. This shape is called a cut-corner rectangle bell. Handy size for many desk lamps. There are 8 total panels.
When lit the paper has a real parchment, vintage look. Okay, it's time to get back to filling orders! A little design time for me and I'm happy.
The snowy view from my shop.
gotta get back to work.
