Today is garland making day. I'm between orders and it's time to decorate the outside of my shop! Yesterday I picked up 2 bags of boxwood, a bag of cedar and a roll of light weight green wire from The Mettowee Mill Nursery just down the road in Dorset.
I'm no expert at making garlands but think it's fun to do. Sometimes I make it into the woods and find Princess Pine for the garland; it's super special. This year it's boxwood. It's pretty easy to work with. I brought my clippers down this morning. I also used a long long ribbon the length I need to make the garland. Or also use a jute rope or even thick yarn.
I just start in making the garland by pulling apart some of the boxwood so it's not so thick. The key is to use lots of wire and make it nice and tight so the garlands won't fall apart. Hide the wire with the next layer of greens. I intersperse the cedar every foot or so. But no rules here- make it how you like it. It's lots of fun. Any greens would work well.
I have finally gotten smart and added the lights before putting the garland around my door.... so much easier! Pretty isn't it! Now it's time to make one for around my inside window at home. It took about an hour to make.
Got lights on my grapevine, too! I need all the light I can get this time of year.
Isn't this wreath pretty! A friend gave it to me as she was cleaning out and moving away. Sad to see good friends go but I'll remember her by the textile goodies she past on to me.
Just had to show you this sweet trim I just purchased on Etsy. I've had it before and just used it on one of my night lights. Such a simple note on the trim from the seller- how easy to do, but how smart she is. When I sell my shades I usually wrap them in tissue with linen and one of those spiral paper clips with my business card hanging. It's those little touches that make purchasing from Etsy so nice. Enough, enough of those big catalogs and malls.... all the same stuff... how dull.
all for today, almost time to make dinner!
